WHO GIVES A FLYING TARTE FLAMBÉE?
Seppi’s, Raoul’s Uptown Sister, Creates Rustic
French Peasant Food On 56th Street
Seppi’s, the popular uptown
outpost of SoHo’s Raoul’s, ushers in fall with new, simple but satisfying
dishes. Tarte Flambée, a traditional Alsatian dish created by bakers to
make use of the leftover bread dough, is served in several savory variations
for the fall. What was once the baker’s lunch is now the signature dish at this
charming Midtown French bistro.
“We have tried to stay close
to our roots by preparing dishes that are true to old world traditions,” said
Chef Claude Alain Solliard. “Tarte
Flambée reflects this as well as the flavors of fall; simple, earthy and
comforting.”
Each Tarte Flambée consists
of thin flatbread dough baked crisp on a baker’s stone, then topped with a
medley of ingredients that enhance the flavors of the others. Les Tarte Flambees on the fall menu include:
La Traditionelle (Bacon, Caramelized Onion and Crème Fraiche); La Lente (Roasted Garlic,
Onions Tomatoes and Escargot), La Maison (Grilled Portobella Mushrooms, Zucchini, Tomatoes and Onions) and La
Fumee (Smoked Salmon, Caramelized
Onions and Crème Fraiche). Each is served with mixed greens lightly
dressed in Seppi’s house vinaigrette.
“Where my brother Guy and I
grew up in Alsace,” said owner Serge Raoul,” these wonderful breads were sold
as street fair food. Every bite is a
taste of home.”

Filling a void in midtown dining with an innovative menu served late into the night in an atmosphere evoking the feel of “old New York” with a heaping dash of Parisian charm. Seppi’s is open 11:30 AM – 2:00 AM seven days a week.
